Claude “Reset for free”, explained

With the Opus 5.5 launch, many paid accounts found a new card under Settings → Usage: “Resets · Get extra wiggle room to explore Opus 5.5”, with a Reset for free button. Here is what the Reset for free card does and how to get the most out of it.

What the Reset for free card does

Reset for free refills your usage back to full in one click. Depending on the offer, it restores your 5-hour session limit or your weekly limit. It is a one-time card: once you press Reset for free, it cannot be undone and the card disappears.

Your normal weekly refill still happens on schedule. The Reset for free card does not refund past overage charges and does not add usage credits.

How to use Reset for free

It takes under a minute:

01Open claude.ai on the web or the Claude Desktop app (Reset for free is not in the mobile app).
02Go to Settings → Usage.
03Find the “Resets” card and press Reset for free.
04Your usage meter drops back to zero right away, for chats, Claude Code and Cowork alike.

Why you don’t see the Reset for free button

If the card is missing, one of these is usually why:

You are on the mobile app or in the terminal

The Reset for free button only shows on the web and in Claude Desktop. It is not in the iOS or Android app, and not in Claude Code in the terminal or IDE. The reset still applies to Claude Code once you press it on the web.

Your plan is not eligible

Reset for free went to subscription plans such as Pro, Max and Team. The free plan did not get it. If you downgraded or cancelled before using it, the card is gone.

You already used it or it expired

Each card works once and expires on the date shown on it. The Opus 5.5 Reset for free card expires on October 22, 2026.

When to press Reset for free

You don’t need to hit your limit before using it, but that is where it pays off most. The best moment for Reset for free is when your weekly limit is nearly empty and your normal refill is still days away. Pressing it the day before your weekly refill wastes most of its value.

If the card is about to expire and you still have room, use it on a heavy day anyway. An unused Reset for free is simply lost.

Yes. It is included with eligible paid plans and does not charge usage credits.

Does Reset for free work for Claude Code?

Yes. Claude Code shares your plan allowance, so pressing Reset for free on the web refills Claude Code too.

Will there be more Reset for free cards?

Anthropic calls limit resets an occasional benefit. We track every new one and can email you when the next Reset for free card appears.
