Claude reset for free: the Opus 5.5 card has expired

A Claude reset for free card appears under Settings → Usage when Anthropic sends one, and its button works only once. The Opus 5.5 card expired at 11:59pm Pacific on October 22, 2026, which is 6:59am UTC on October 23 and October 23 in most of Asia. If you never pressed it, that refill is lost. The same screen now says there are no resets right now, until Anthropic puts another card in that spot.
How Claude reset for free works
Pressing the button refilled usage back to full. Depending on the offer, that restored the 5-hour session limit or the weekly limit. Chats, Claude Code and Cowork all came back together, because they share one allowance. It did not refund past overage charges and did not add usage credits. Your ordinary weekly refill still arrives on the account’s own day.
It was not a bigger plan. Anthropic calls these refills an occasional benefit. This one shipped with Opus 5.5, which is why the card mentioned exploring that model, but the refill applied to the plan limits you already had.
Which accounts saw Claude reset for free
Paid subscription plans such as Pro, Max and Team received it. The free plan did not. The button showed only on claude.ai in the browser and in Claude Desktop, on the Resets card in Settings → Usage. It was absent from the iOS and Android apps, and from Claude Code in the terminal or an IDE. A press on the web still refilled Claude Code, because the allowance is shared.
Each card worked once and could not be undone. Downgrading or cancelling before using it removed the card as well.
What Settings shows after the deadline
After that Pacific deadline, or after the button was used, the Resets area switches to: “A reset refills your 5-hour and weekly limits when you choose to use it. Your week keeps its usual reset day. No resets right now. When you get one, it shows up here with its expiry date.” That line is the normal empty state. It means no card is waiting.
While it was live, the card read “Get extra wiggle room to explore Opus 5.5. Expires Oct 22.” Some accounts saw “Get extra wiggle room to explore with a limit reset” instead. Both wordings described the same Claude reset for free offer. Claude printed the deadline in local time, so the same instant could display October 23 rather than October 22.
What still refills on its own
Only Anthropic can issue a Claude reset for free card. The 5-hour window still opens on your first message and refills five hours later. The weekly cap still refills every seven days at the fixed local time under Settings → Usage, or via /usage in Claude Code. A day name in a limit message is the weekly cap. A clock time alone is usually the session window. The reset time calculator reads those two clocks.
One later card is not this offer. Pro and Max accounts admitted to the Claude Duet preview can see a Full reset that expires Nov 30. That card is the Claude Duet reset, and it is not a Claude reset for free for every paid plan.
Another card, if Anthropic issues one, replaces the empty Resets line and shows its own expiry. Between April and September 2026 this site logged 14 early refills, with no fixed calendar. The odds on the home page and the dated reset history are the public signs, not a schedule.
