Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 are on every paid Claude plan, but the Fable limits are very different depending on which plan you pay for. Here is how Fable limits work on each plan, last checked against Anthropic’s help center on Sep 24, 2026.

Fable limits by plan

The short version of Fable limits on each plan:

Max, premium Team and premium Enterprise seats

Fable is included. You can spend up to 50% of your weekly limits on Fable at no extra cost; Fable usage draws from your normal weekly limit. Past that share, Fable limits are reached and usage credits take over if enabled.

Pro, standard Team and standard Enterprise seats

Fable is not part of the plan’s standard allowance. Every Fable message is paid with usage credits, so on these plans the Fable limits are really your credits balance and monthly spend cap.

Usage-based Enterprise and the API

Fable is billed at standard API rates, with no separate Fable limits beyond your organisation’s rate limits.

The separate Fable limit meter

Settings → Usage may show a line such as “Fable this week · Separate weekly limit for Fable” under your main weekly limit. That meter tracks your Fable limits separately from other models; your Fable limits refill at the same weekly reset time as everything else.

How Fable limits changed in 2026

Fable limits started out looser. Early on, a promotion let Pro and standard seats use Fable 5 within their weekly limits. That promotion ended on July 19, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT and never covered Fable 5.1. Eligible Pro and standard Team seats received a one-time credit for the switch. A short-lived bug around the same date showed “usage credits required” to people who should not have seen it; Anthropic refunded the affected charges.

Fable limits have moved several times in a few months, so check the date on any advice about Fable limits you read.

Getting more out of Fable limits

A few habits stretch your Fable limits, whatever your plan:

01Use Fable for the tasks that need it and switch back to Opus or Sonnet for the rest.
02On Pro, set a monthly spend cap before turning on usage credits for Fable.
03On Max, watch the Fable meter so Fable limits don’t eat the half of your week you need for other work.
04Early resets usually refill Fable limits along with everything else; our tracker logs each one.
