Claude weekly limit reset

By Claude Resets · Updated

The 5-hour window is annoying; the weekly limit is the one that can stop you for days. Here is when the Claude weekly limit resets, why it differs between accounts, and what to do when the weekly limit runs out early.

When does the Claude weekly limit reset?

Every paid account has a fixed weekly limit reset time, for example “Resets Friday 4:00 PM”. It repeats every seven days at the same moment, in your local time. You can see yours under Settings → Usage on claude.ai, or with /usage in Claude Code.

The time is set per account, not globally. That is why a friend’s weekly limit can refill on Tuesday while yours waits until Friday.

Separate weekly limit for Fable

Some models carry their own weekly limit. Settings → Usage may show a line like “Fable this week · Separate weekly limit for Fable” next to the main weekly limit. Each one has its own meter but the same refill time.

Does Claude reset twice a week?

Officially, no: the weekly limit refills once every seven days. Some users have logged refills that look closer to every 72 hours, but Anthropic has not confirmed that. The extra refills most people notice are early resets Anthropic hands out after outages or launches.

Weekly limit vs 5-hour limit

The weekly limit caps your total usage across the week; the 5-hour window caps how fast you spend it. Both have to have room for a message to go through. If the limit message names a day, it is the weekly limit.

Weekly caps were added in August 2025 on top of the 5-hour window. Since then Anthropic has raised the weekly limit on paid plans several times, including a permanent increase in September 2026.

Early weekly limit resets

Anthropic has reset the weekly limit for all subscribers many times in 2026, usually together with the 5-hour window. An early weekly limit reset helps most if you just ran out, and very little if your own refill was due tomorrow.

Since the Opus 5.5 launch, some resets arrive as a saved card you can use whenever you like, which is the best way to rescue a weekly limit.

Make the weekly limit last

A few habits keep the weekly limit from running dry on Wednesday:

  1. 01Check your weekly limit reset day and plan heavy work right after it.
  2. 02Use lighter models for routine work; they cost far less of the weekly limit.
  3. 03Save any “Reset for free” card for the last days before your weekly limit refills.
  4. 04Turn on usage credits only as a backstop so a hard deadline never waits on the weekly limit.
