When does the Claude weekly limit reset?

Every paid account has a fixed weekly limit reset time, for example “Resets Friday 4:00 PM”. It repeats every seven days at the same moment, in your local time. You can see yours under Settings → Usage on claude.ai, or with /usage in Claude Code.

The time is set per account, not globally. That is why a friend’s weekly limit can refill on Tuesday while yours waits until Friday.

Weekly limit vs 5-hour limit

The weekly limit caps your total usage across the week; the 5-hour window caps how fast you spend it. Both have to have room for a message to go through. If the limit message names a day, it is the weekly limit.

Weekly caps were added in August 2025 on top of the 5-hour window. Since then Anthropic has raised the weekly limit on paid plans several times, including a permanent increase in September 2026.

Early weekly limit resets

Anthropic has reset the weekly limit for all subscribers many times in 2026, usually together with the 5-hour window. An early Claude weekly limit reset helps most if you just ran out, and very little if your own refill was due tomorrow. A normal refill and that surprise are compared in Claude usage reset.

The Opus 5.5 launch also included a saved card you could spend when you liked. That card expired at 11:59pm Pacific on October 22, 2026, so it no longer rescues a weekly limit.

What to do before the Claude weekly limit reset

Read the day on your own account before you ration the rest of the week. That stamp is the Claude weekly limit reset, and nothing in the product moves it. A limit message that names a day is this cap. A clock time alone is usually the 5-hour window, which can still block you after the week refills. Opus uses up both the weekly cap and the 5-hour window faster than Sonnet.

The saved “Reset for free” card from the Opus 5.5 launch expired at 11:59pm Pacific on October 22, 2026, so it no longer refills a week early. Usage credits can bridge a deadline at API rates when the next Claude weekly limit reset is still days away. If the window is only hours off, waiting costs nothing. Early refills are occasional: this site logged 14 between April and September 2026, not a second weekly clock.

Make the weekly limit last

A few habits keep the weekly limit from running dry on Wednesday:
